It’s Time for Red Ribbon Week!
Red Ribbon Week
According to the Red Ribbon Week website, children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42 percent less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
In order to equip teens to combat these risk behaviors, the Red Ribbon Week Campaign was created in 1988 by the National Family Partnership in tribute to fallen DEA agent Enruque Camarena. Each year during the month of October (October 23-31), schools across the nation dedicate one week to raise awareness in the fight against alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence use.
Just Say YES is excited to announce that a record-breaking 104 Red Ribbon Week student assemblies have been secured for the 2019 fall semester (a 49 percent increase from last year). Over 40,000 students will be impacted throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well as other parts of Texas, including: Mt. Vernon, Palmer, Rio Vista, and Rusk. We are also excited to share that we will be reaching students in Delano, CA.
Just Say YES Red Ribbon Week assemblies are given by professional motivational youth speakers who provide strong messages students in the effort to prevent teen drug and alcohol use. Each speaker has his or her own powerful story and speaking style, allowing them to reach students from all walks of life.
